MikeI have the same problem as others in this string of messages. I followed the procedure for downloading the utility fromAfter decompressing it with Rarzilla I tried to execute the IPTool but it just hangs up in a blank page. I have Xp Pro and had the printer turned on (With the blinking lights going) while the utility was invoked.I also tried to hold the resume button for 5 seconds - but no change there. Also tried the other suggestion in the strings of messages i.e. Unplug the chord and plug it in with the on button pressed etc.
Again no effect.Appreciate anybody have any suggestions or methods that have worked.I guess if all else fails then I'll admit defeat and buy new cartridges.I am told that the ink level sensor is a misnomer. In reality it is a page count.
An arbitrary number decided by Canon and since the refilled cartridge has a non-zero number in it the printer hangs up thinking that there is no ink - even though its full. Its the most ridiculous way to want customers to buy factory cartridges. My next printer will most likley be an HP - n2b. Reply to gerovinos and mike 272452Canon's so called ink level indicator is really a paper count tracked on a chip in the cartridge and when that magic number is reached (whether your ink is finished or not)it indicates that the ink level is low/finished.
Using a refilled cartridge may have a few paper counts remaining on it and will give the warning signal (7 orange blinks and a green)either right away or after a short use - like it happened to me. According to the error message I needed to reinstall the cartridge properly.I tried the methods suggested in this forum, i.e the Russian software utility etc but to no avail. I believe this utility will work for the Pixma 1700 which seems to be able to reset the paper count but not for the Pixma 1800.I finally gave up and bought new cartridges.
It seems that Canon wants to be an ink company and doesn't care to be known for a company making technology products. My next printer will be an HP - n2b. Sounds like you guys with the 7 orange blinks have a cartridge problem, but as this hasn't happened to me (yet) it is not easy to work out what is going wrong. If it did happen to me, this is what I would try -Remove the cartridges and clean the electrical contacts with a soft clean cloth and alcohol.
Replace the cartridges, making sure thet are fully clicked into position in the correct slots, then try the printer to see if there is any difference. If there was no difference, I would try to borrow some known good cartridges and see if they worked in my machine. As a last resort, I would buy two new cartridges (because the message doesn't say which one is causing the problem). New cartridges are almost as expensive as the printer, so if I still ended up junking the printer, I would auction them as nearly-new on eBay.If one of you guys is prepared to take a chance and try this, let everyone know, because we don't want you all rushing out buying new cartridges and making Canon even wealthier!Good luck.
@mike272452i guess that the point after which the reset tool is useless is exactly the 7 orange blinking moment.I've got the following 2 questions for the responders:1) has anybody tried to reset them before the 7 blinks moment and how did the things go on afterwards?2) how can the printer detect that the cartidges have been refilled? Does it have a mechanism that detects that the same cartidges have been removed and replaced in their slots? Would it mean that we shoud refill them without removing them?Thank you very much.
Yes gerovinos, I am using cartridges that have been refilled three times - but I never had the 7 blinks. I refilled them when I got the warning message.I haven't taken a cartridge apart to find out, but it seems that they contain a chip which can remember messages it has received from the printer. There is a chip resetter available for Epson cartridges and no doubt someone will come along with a Canon resetter before too long. So it might be worth hanging on to your old cartridges until that time.If anyone has bought new cartridges, it might be worth trying a little experiment - Start the reset tool with new cartridges in the printer, then change back to the old cartridges and see if they can be reset.
Might work?Mike. Same problem here, guys.this is maybe 4th (I don't remember exactly) that I have reloaded my pixma ip1800 inks.A few days ago I printed some pages both in black and color, and everything went fine and smooth.today I connected my printer again and tried to print something, and then. Same experience as yours:- 7 orange blinks and 1 green- doesn't help any kind of getting inks out and in again- I can see that the connectors are OK. Nobody touched them by the hands- this IPTool freezes if I turn-on my printerDamn! MikeI am following the chain of messages from you and others after my original posting. In reply to your latest post, I tried all that you suggest. Resetting the cartridge and following the instructions from the manual that you quote, i.e.
Power off to reset the buffer and sensors etc. There was no change and the seven orange and one green still continued. I also did what you suggest and called Canon. I had a very long conversation with the Canon Rep and her position was what we are experiencing is due to using refilled cartridges. They don't recommend it and it violates the warranty etc etc. You know the usual party line. She didn't say so in so many words but implied that the design of the cartridge was created to discourage the use of the refills.
From that I gathered that the once the page count in the cartridge chip reaches a preset limit it will relay that message to whichever printer it is next installed into after its been refilled. What I cannot fathom is why in some computers the reset software utility by our Russian friend works whereas in others the computer freezes.Anyway I went ahead and bought new Canon cartridges and every thing works fine. This will also answer your last point that the printer may be having a hardware problem. Additionally, I don't believe that there is a problem with their software either as you so generously suggested. This is done by design to thwart any effort by the users to circumvent their policy of keeping a lock on cartridge sales - n2b. Thank You DosguyYou are a genius. Or something!!!!I think you've solved the above problem.
I tried the method outlined in the link with an old black cartridge which had been giving me the error message (seven amber and a green). No more error lights. The print was streaky but that may be because I had given up on the old cartridge and it had been laying around for a while.
I think a couple of cleaning cycles will fix that problem. At least it worked without the error message. However this method did not work for the color cartridge.
The error message continued. I suspect that the color cartridge may have been damaged over time and I cannot be sure that it is still a working cartridge with a good refill.Anyway thank you for the link.
I believe this solution will work in resetting the cartridges after a refill. I will definitely try to reset the cartridges when my present new ones need to be refilled. Gud day I already solve that blink problem.try this1. Press power button while plug in the powerchord - green lamp.2. While hold the power button press resume button twice - orangeblink and return to green.3. Release the power button,Then the pc will recognize new printer install. Then run the iptools from russia4. Click the reset black reset color5.
On a pixma ip2500 with seven flashes error, the color cartriges (4 of them show the error, while the pg40 doesn`t. So, I`ll try them all on a IP1800 that I know for sure it works. If not, the electric contacts may be defectuous. Good luck with yours!-Quote:-Gud day! I already solve that blink problem.try this:1. Press power button while plug in the powerchord - green lamp.2. While hold the power button press resume button twice - orangeblink and return to green.3.
Release the power button, this actually does nothing more than entering the service menu, thus poreventing the cartrige detection. This can also be done without the cartriges at allThen the pc will recognize new printer install.that`s true, indeed the printer is seen as new one and instals as a copy - under XP ProfessionalThen run the iptools from russiawhich this time doesn`t freeze anymore. Pay atention when setting the type, IP1800 or IP2500. I used iptool 1.1.5, look for it on google, or here:4. Click the reset black reset color5. Add me to the club of 7 orange blinks.
Read everything above so will give it a try. I must mention i have the CL-31 (OEM version of CL-41) that came standard with the printer. I have refilled it up to 4 times so it's impressive that Canon can kill cartridges just like that. I think it's the canon easyprinttoolbox software that does it!I had installed and used the IP-1800 on 2 other pc by installing only the driver package.
All went fine but on this PC i installed both the driver package and the easyprinttoolbox and after 4 succesful prints i got the 7 blinks. I hope to bring it back to life or else i'll end up rewarding canon for this kill by buying a new cartridge. Hi Guys.Has any tried the suggestion in my post - 8/1/08 12:25?Can't do it myself, 'cos I haven't had the blinking problem. Also, you know what they say about fixing what ain't broke! But what is needed here is is a methodical step-by-step approach. No good hoping for a blinding flash of inspiration. In the good old days, some smart Russian would have spent a couple of weeks solving this.
Now they are all much too rich and have joined the use-it-and-trash-it society. But I guarantee that somewhere out there is a poor genius who, at this very moment, is on the threshold of a breakthrough. So, take my advice, hold the lighter fuel a little while longer!Mike. There are many other forums with the same problem '7 blinks clubs':) and so far there are no solutions - resets don't work i personally tried 2 oof them and both 'hang' when you use them on ip1800. The bottom point is that after the internal sensor inside the cartridge reaches its level when it sugests to change the cartridge it basically crashes (cartridge) and there is nothing you can do about it.
I tried calling canon and spoke to 4 different proffecionals and one of them agreed with me that that is the way canon has manufactured these cartridges (i got pg30, and cl31) do discurage the refilling experience. Sorry people but i think we have to go shopping for new printers and for me that WILL NOT BE CANON!!! Ok folks,Looks like we all have to be very careful to refill our cartridges when we first get the message saying that they are running low. And EVEN MORE IMPORTANT use the software reset tool to reset the levels, because it seems you can go on doing this indefinitely, unless the ink level has been allowed to drop to zero.I am still very confident that sometime soon someone will come up with an answer to the 7 blinks candition - so don't throw out your old cartridges.Cannon to right of them,Cannon to left of themCannon in front of themVolleyed and thundered;Stormed at with shot and shell,Boldly they rode and well,Into the jaws of Death,Into the mouth of HellRode the six hundred.Have courage!
I had bought 2 Canon inks PG40 and CL41 via ebay.com, and today they came! Work perfectly, like a clock.IpTool can easily be accessed, and I can reset now whatever I want. Got them from ebay for 10$, plus s/h.Although Canon dissapointed me extremely with this 'counter' shit, I still could't cast the printer away, because it still attracted me on multiple levels - like simplicity of use, quality of print, cheap refilling of the inks etc. So I took advice from someone who posted here, and got these better inks.Warm recommendation to all of you who still seek solution.Best regards!
'Unfortunately we can't get those sort of prices in Europe - a set of refills costs us as much as we paid for the printer.' Are you sure?Because I live in Europe - Croatia.I bought empty inks PG40 and CL41 from ebay, America. Then I refill them here, at the local refill store. It costs me around $20-25 for both of them.I suppose you were saying about new inks that they cost as much as new printer, not the refilled ones.Otherwise, what would be the point of refilling instead of buying new ones? Using iPTool softwareThis is software from Rusia for canon iP series. Using this software give separate experience. This software detect automatically attached printer in the computer. Following way reset to use iPTool software:Download and ektrak iPtool software, you can download the software from here:iP Tool v. 1.1.5 (189.1 KiB)Turn on the printerThen run iptool software, the software will detect the printer automatically. To reset waste ink counter to zero click “Reset Main” and “Reset Platen” button.
After click the button printer have been reset. Now turn of printer and turn on again. To view the result do test print.- Anonymous. Ok, I did this to my ip1700 to recover from 'can not recognize the ink' message and '7 (or more)blink'. Hope it will help other Pixma printers. Here are the long and short stories. The short story first (to get you going):- use 'hold power then plug-in' to enter service mode (see above - 8/15/08 3:16 AM reply by anonymous), this will put printer from fault mode to 'live' mode so won't hung the iptool.- use iptool, it should shown the printer you have at left pan.- check the 'SET' printer type box if there are more than one model in the list. The ip1700 is paired with ip1300 (for EU region) and ip1300 is displayed in the box as default selection. Change the printer model to what you have. Hit 'SET'.- The printer now is reset to the correct model.- Test and print.Ok, here is the long story:I was refilling the black cartridge and want to reset the counter.
I use GENTOOL to do so. However, I also did the unlock and select ip1700E from the manual. Everything works fine after I did that. The printer reports ink level are full (both black and color). Few days later we had a power outage. After power restored, the printer start to have 'not recognize' message when I try to use it. When I ask the 'Ink info', it report need 'fine' cartridge(70/71) instead of (40/41).
After search through all the above solutions I decide reset to firmware to ip1700. It does work.
Looks like somehow the printer gain a different personality. My guess is the GENTOLL did that when I am trying to reset the counter. However, the change is only in the firmware not the current program. Likely the printer is running with 'copy to RAM then execute'.
Therefore, the problem only surface after the power lost which fetches program from ROM again. This may explians some of you 'did not use printer for a while then failed' problem.During the 'recovery' process I managed to get my catridge 'smoke' by using the 'taping contacts' methode. The catridge went back to the parking position and power went off.
The printer won't come up. The power light only go green for a second then off. I try to power on serval time and end up with smoke comes out from parking area. I have to grap the cartridge by force to drag the out to open. My CL-41 now is almost not printing (lack of ink).
Although the cartridge still reports good status, I may have a empty tank or bad cartridge. Somehow cover the contact may force the catridge discharge too quick. So, use the tape with care.Is this will solve all the '7 blink club' problems? I hope so but maybe not. Error: The following ink cartridge is not recognized.Black (40/830) Color (41 & 831)Means: Cartridge cannot be used anymore, or chips is destroyed.Questions: Is there any ways that this problem can be fixed?Error: Paper is jammed.I try printing and this error automatically comes out.Questions: How can i fixed this?
Any help out there.Error: Waste tank absorber is full, etc. When I print this error comes out, but what makes me confused is that my printer lights only the green light flashing while the orange light does not (resume button).Somebody told me that that the printer lighs orange or red to sign that there is a problem error.Questions: I used waste tank absorber resetter software and it hungs my computer, I try using the manual resetting, but does not work either. Help me please.thank you in advance. Hello there guys.
I've read all your post. And i have a news for you. IP tools really works, if the printer is error free. I have 2 x Canon Ip 1800, one with the same orange (7 time) green (1 time) problem, and another one, with no error. I've connected the good printer to my computer, and run the IP tool (Russian version - is somewhere above the link to download that software. I've reset my ink levels, unfortunately the pg 40 and cl 41, that were reset on my working printer didn't work on the one with the orange (7 time) green (1 time) problem, but I've put PG 40 OEM and CL 41 OEM, and worked just fine.so sad.but true. I already got two Canon Pixma iP1800.
One is still working and I was still hoping that the old one will work again. The message displayed when I use it was 'The ink absorber was full.' But when I opened the unit and look for the ink absorber, yes, there is a lot of ink in the absorber but not full. And there is no sensor that will send a message to the printer or computer that it is really full.
The sensor that I found was at the paper feed. I think the kind of error for this printer is company made, or it is really a disposable one.For those who are thinking of buying new cartridges for the printer, better have a new printer instead, or bring the printer to the canon servicing station. They might have a solution for their printers. I have a suggestion on refilling ink cartridges.Make sure that the cartridge is in slanting position (the nozzle is higher) so that the ink will not go directly to the nozzle.
Also, make sure that ink you will refill is less than enough to fill the cartridge to avoid overflowing. Overflowing lessen the life usage of the cartridge.
After refilling, cover the hole immediately so that the ink inside the cartridge will not get dry.The problem I discovered in refilling cartridges is that, we keep on refilling the cartridge without knowing that the ink absorber inside the cartridge is already hard because of the dried ink. Usually the ink we refilled just go out of the nozzle, because nothing is holding it. Hi CAMPUSBRO.Thanks for your information. You are quite right - there is no ink level sensor. Canon just decide arbitrarily how many pages you are entitled to expect from your printer and then bring it grinding to a halt! You can make up your own mind whether this is ethical business practise.I first came across this problem with the i250 and found there was a software 'IP Tool' freely available on the Web. This makes it possible to get around the problem by resetting the EEPROM.AS yet, I haven't found a similar tool for the iP1800, but I live in hope and will let everyone know when I have any information. If you found out how to open the case of the iP1800, I would be very interested to know how you did it?
At first glance it looks pretty impenetrable. Hi, mike272452.It is really difficult to open the Canon Pixma iP1800. I have tried three times before I really opened it. At first, I thought that it is really the ink absorber that is full, so I tried cleaning it and dried it under the heat of the sun. But, when I re-assembled the printer, same error it gave to me. I opened it again to look for the sensor for such error which is 'Ink absorber is full.' And there is no sensor that will detect that the ink absorber is really full.
And I knew that resetting the printer is best thing to do.I have tried the suggestions to use the iPTool, run it to my computer. And guess what, I made it!
I am using again my old Pixma iP1800.Anyway, if you'll entrust me your email add, I will send you pictures on how to disect the Pixma iP1800. I am really fond/curious about electronic machines, so I tried opening them when there is a problem.
After spending all night, LITERALLY, on this expletive deleted, at 8:35 am, I finally found the solution to the 7 orange 1 green blinks problem:With the blinking going on, press and hold the resume button (the one with the orange light, that has a circle with a triangle next to it) for 2 minutes. (I used my big toe.) Open the cover. Take out both cartridges. Put both cartridges back in. Close the cover.
Wait 2 minutes while the light flashes green only. Pull the power cord out of the printer. Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it on. (Orange Flashes 7 times and green once)After trying various tips suggested above, both manual and software tool, nothing worked for me.However, i tried a combination of both which has cured the problem. I'm not sure if it was luck, but here is what i did.I removed the color cartridge and covered the top 2 rows of the connections with tape.I then replaced the cartridge and closed the lid. The flashes then reduced to 5.I then unplugged the power cord, and reconnected while holding the power button down.
I held this for approximately 1min. While holding the power button i pressed the reset button twice. The green LED was then in a permanent state of green. I then ran the software which is listed above (Which froze while the printer was in error mode) and reset eprom etc. It's working fine for the moment. Hi Super Canon User!I am using IP1980. After refilling CL-41 color cartridge I saw the 1green & 7orange light.

Lexmark 5000, replaced with Epson for half a day when same problem found then by Canon PIXMA MP 198.Accidently removed colour cartridge from Canon when replacing empty black. It refused to recognise colour when replaced and would not print black without recognised colour.I like the one about opening to replace cartridges and removing power plug Preform required operations with power removed and only then restore power.
Blind the bastard as to what has been done!!!I now have a few ideas to try, thanks all. I researched a lot for 15 days and finally found a solution WHICH WORKS.Resetting has to be done by Canon General Tools and NOT by Canon IP tools.
You can get the Canon General Tools fromThe.rar file is similar to.zip file and needs to be extracted by rar extracting software. I used rarextractfrog which can be downloaded from www.download.comSwitch on the printer and make sure it is connected to the computer.
Make sure it is your default printer.Once you have extracted the.rar file into a folder, open the folder and open the file generaltool.1. Select USB port2. Click lock release3.
Click ip18004. Click device id5. Clear waste ink counter by clicking MAIN & PLATEN (Green light on printer blinks)6.
Check EEPROM Box7. Click EEPROM Dump8. Test pattern 19. Okay Okay Okay. You've tried the above reset.
Which is1.unplug ac,2.press and hold the power button,3.plug the ac/power back on,4.press reset button twice,5.now release power buttonIf the doesn't work you're shit out of luck. You need to replace your ink cartridge. This happens, when you ink level drops to zero, if it does you wont be able to use iptool. To find out which cartridge is the problem.
You need to take out the black, leave the color in there, close lid, and switch power off and on. Open iptool if it doesn't freeze you'll know the black is the problem. Do the same with the colorTake out color and leave black, close lid and power off and on, open iptool 1.1.5. And if it doesn't freeze you know that the black is the problem. If you do both above and iptool freezes on both cartridges, you know you need to replace both.NO WAY AROUND A ZERO EMPTY LEVEL INK CARTRIDGE. YOU NEED TO REPLACE IT.
AGAIN DO NOT LET YOUR INK LEVEL DROP TO ZERO, OTHERWISE YOU WONT BE ABLE TO USE IPTOOL.IF YOU USE YOU INK CARTRIDGE FOR A WHILE(WITH IPTOOL, AND YOUR COMPUTER CRASHES. YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE ANOTHER CARTRIDGE, AS THE IPTOOL SETTINGS WOULD BE GONE.STOP WASTING YOUR TIME. FIGURE OUT WHICH ONE IF THE PROBLEM AND REPLACE THE CARTRIDGE. AGAIN, NO WAY AROUND IT!!!!!!!!!!! It is a long time since I owned an iP1800. Mine developed a mechanical fault while still under guarantee and they replaced it with an iP2600, so I had to learn a whole new set of refilling tricks!I have had another look at the thread, just to remind myself of what was there. You will find the IP Tool at one of the sites mentioned or, if they no longer exist, you should find it by doing a Google on 'iP1800 IP Tool'.How it works. I have had a problem with my Pixma Ip17000 (the one with 1 green and 7 orange blinks).
The error says that my cartridges were not inserted properly. I have tried different methods and almost gave up, but discovered a method (which was posted here earlier) and it really works. Google for the proper resetter, I found one ip1700ip1300 from the net (my printer is an Ip1700).The first problem that you will encounter is that the above-mentioned software hangs or freezes, because it cannot access the printer because of the error blinks. If only you could reset the printer, there might be a chance that the printer will be okay. The trick is there is a way where you could get the resetter to work, but for a limited time. During this manual resetting method:1. With the printer plugged in and powered off, press and hold the Resume/Cancel button, then press and hold the Power button.
(DO NOT release the buttons. The LED light should be green to indicate that a function is selectable.).2. While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button.
(DO NOT release the Power button.).3. While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button 2 times, and then release both the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in orange and green, starting with orange.).there will be a time when the resetter 'recognizes' the printer. So it is the times when the resetter recognizes the printer, that you can input the commands/controls on the resetter (like the choice of usb port, device i.d., clearing the eeprom etc.)It worked for me.
Hope that helps. I have refilled my ink cartridges several times on my Canon ip1800. Now I get an error message Ink Cartridge not installed properly. I get green 1, orange 7 blinks. It is the same cartridge I've used.I've cleaned the cartridges with alchol and wiped the pins off. I've taken them out, cleaned and replaced.
I've help both buttons and pushed the orange on several times. Sill flashes. I can't get the maintence, View Printer Status because the error message comes up. What do I do now? This might cause my untimely death due to stress.Headline, Printer kills old lady. This evening I resolved this problem again for the third time and I'll record my experiences in case it's helpful to anyone out there.
Posts on this forum have helped me several times in the past. My printer is the ip1800, but apparently several other Canons are similar and so information here may be applicable. The first time I got the 7-yellow-blinks problem (of course the cartridges were not installed reversed, which is what the manual says the problem is) I did about everything I read here and nothing worked until I bought two new cartridges (one rebuilt/refilled and one brand new). Then the printer worked fine after putting them in.The second time I got the 7-yellow-blinks problem I pressed the resume button for a minute or so and the print it was in the middle of continued on and the blinks stopped. I think this may have disabled checking the black cartridge as the Canon Status Monitor program still today doesn't check its fullness - checking ink levels says the check of the black ink level is disabled. I used iPTool to reset the counters after the printer was back to green-light-only state.Several weeks ago the 7-yellow-blinks problem happened again, but the printer sat unused until tonight when I put time into fixing it again. I had assumed the printer got into this state because I did not get informed the ink had run low and so I didn't run iPTool to reset the counters.
While this did happen (I didn't reset the counters), it may not have been the true problem. After trying suggestions on this tread (washing electrical contacts on printer and catridges with alcohol - I used Q-tip, power off for a long time, restart with power button down, etc., etc.) I got nowhere. I finally went and bought replacement ink cartridges. Well come to find out, this time after installing the replacement cartridges (rebuilt ones, they called them - cleaned up very nice, I think) I still had the problem (actually it was slightly different - 15 yellow flashes, then later it became 7 flashes again). Though being quite discouraged, I tried one more thing. I sprayed some 'Contact Cleaner' on the printer contacts - it's a can from Blow Off I got a long time ago. It's a liquid in an aerosol can, but looks like one of those cans of compressed air you use to blow dust out of computers.
Well in spite of the brand name Blow Off, it's for cleaning electrical connections and after spaying that on the printers contacts and putting the cartridges back in, the printer worked again. I did have to hold the resume button down for a short time - I didn't count the flashes though. Apparently, in this case, my electrical connections truly were not making contact - the problem was not that software had written to the cartridge(s) some code to make them self-destruct or anything - at least not with the new cartridges. I'd like to put the old cartridges back in and see if they now work in the printer again also, but I already did an alignment and would have to redo that if I swap cartridges.
If anyone posts to this thread with interest that I do retry my old ones, I will. My guess is that they will work and I can do a few more refills with them. Conclusion: the electrical contacts can be difficult to clean well enough, and some contact cleaner that has IPA and Hexane in it did the job on my printer's contacts.
